This paper aims to give an overview of the causes that have led to the significant increase in gas prices, especially in latest months. After a summary of the factors that justify a “structural” nature of this energy crisis, rather than circumstantial, a particular focus is made on the role of LNG in the current scenario, thus contributing to the “infra-gas competition” between countries. The final part of the paper will put an emphasis on the need to strengthen investments in the upstream supply chain.

Abstract

This paper aims to give an overview of the causes that have led to the significant increase in gas prices, especially in latest months. After a summary of the factors that justify a “structural” nature of this energy crisis, rather than circumstantial, a particular focus is made on the role of LNG in the current scenario, thus contributing to the “infra-gas competition” between countries. The final part of the paper will put an emphasis on the need to strengthen investments in the upstream supply chain.
