The prehistoric sites in western Liguria and in particular at Balzi Rossi were mainly excavated at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries with excavation methods that today limit the possibility of accurate analyses of the different categories of remains. Riparo Mochi (Balzi Rossi, Ventimiglia) is to date the site that still preserves a rich deposit testifying the cultural evolution from the Middle to the Upper Palaeolithic. Recent excavations allowed to stratigraphically correlate the finds uncovered during previous research; it is therefore now possible to carry out analyses that provide a homogeneous view of the entire sequence. In this paper, we present the data relative to the lithic industries and faunal remains from Unit I (Mousterian) of Riparo Mochi, the result of a reconstruction of the excavation data, and the application of contemporary study approaches. As far as the lithic industries are concerned, the reconstruction of the operational chain as well as the recognition of the technical peculiarities of the lithic assemblage make it possible to confirm the validity of a fully technological approach aimed at understanding human behaviour; as far as the study of faunal remains is concerned, we will present the preliminary and as yet unpublished data of the new archaeozoological analyses conducted on the entire collection from Unit I of the site.

Abstract
As far as the lithic industries are concerned, the reconstruction of the operational chain as well as the recognition of the technical peculiarities of the lithic assemblage make it possible to confirm the validity of a fully technological approach aimed at understanding human behaviour; as far as the study of faunal remains is concerned, we will present the preliminary and as yet unpublished data of the new archaeozoological analyses conducted on the entire collection from Unit I of the site.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
