Ariosto’s progressive experimentation in carrying out the ironic game with the intellectual public (thanks to allusions to classical sources or to modern testimonies) emerges by observing above all the octaves discarded during the re-elaboration of the poem.

L’articolo vuole mettere in luce la dialettica interna al Furioso tra il poeta-narratore e i lettori dotti. La progressiva sperimentazione di Ariosto nel realizzare il gioco ironico con il pubblico intellettuale (grazie ad allusioni a fonti classiche o a testimonianze moderne) emerge osservando soprattutto le ottave scartate durante la rielaborazione del poema.
