As recently discussed and institutionally clearly emphasized, facing needs for CO2 captur, reforestation represents a potentially important tool to improve air quality, carbon abatement and reducing the impact of climate change and may also provide valuable biodiversity benefits. However, the economic returns are critical in determining whether it will be a viable land use and this is highly sensitive to assumptions around upfront establishment cost. The application of these principles and directives in urban areas, especially if densely populated in confined spaces, is, however, very difficult and denotes important opportunity costs precisely in the high value of the areas possibly affected by the urban reforestation strategy. But technology can provide solutions. The high efficiency of micro-algae in CO2 fixation determines the producibility of effective tools functional to CO2 fixation in the growth of algal biomass.
