In recent years different strategies with the aim of eliminating completely the traditional lime-carbon dioxide juice purification process were evaluated. To complete the picture of the possible solutions to be adopted for the elimination of the traditional purification process, the possibility of processing raw juice in laboratory tests and in pilot plants following these steps was evaluated: microfiltration and softening of the raw juice; first cooling crystallization with the aim of obtaining commercial white sugar; chromatographic separation of the run-off of the first crystallization step; decolorization of the extract (rich-sugar fraction); cooling crystallization of the extract in five stages with the aim of obtaining commercial white sugar in the first two steps and recycling of the sugar produced in the following three stages. The results obtained, as well as the proposed flow-sheet and a comparison with the previously proposed strategies, are presented and discussed.

Abstract
The results obtained, as well as the proposed flow-sheet and a comparison with the previously proposed strategies, are presented and discussed.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
