High quality momentum distributions of the x-ray scattering intensity are obtained from intact excided biological samples in a wide interval of the momentum transfer variable covering the SAXS (small angle x-ray scattering) and the WAXS (wide angle x-ray scattering) ranges. It is shown that especially in the case of soft tissues the SAXS integrated intensity largely prevails compared to the WAXS opening its possible exploitation in practical narrow beam diagnostic techniques. Moreover it is demonstrated that, in the SAXS regime, brain tissue can be characterised in terms of amplitude variations of the myelin series period.

Abstract
High quality momentum distributions of the x-ray scattering intensity are obtained from intact excided biological samples in a wide interval of the momentum transfer variable covering the SAXS (small angle x-ray scattering) and the WAXS (wide angle x-ray scattering) ranges. It is shown that especially in the case of soft tissues the SAXS integrated intensity largely prevails compared to the WAXS opening its possible exploitation in practical narrow beam diagnostic techniques. Moreover it is demonstrated that, in the SAXS regime, brain tissue can be characterised in terms of amplitude variations of the myelin series period.File in questo prodotto:
