Air bags are restraining devices installed in cars. They are activated by a sudden de-acceleration which leads to ignition of a sodium azide propellant cartrige. Nitrogen is liberated by combustion and inflates the bag. Sodium azide may react with water creating other toxic gases. In the literature ocular damage, inflammation of the upper airways, bone fractures and contusive cervical damage are reported to have been caused by air bag deployment. 7-8% of damage due to air bags is represented by cutaneous lesions (irritant dermatitis, abrasions and burns) caused by the high temperature of the gases released or by the corrosive alkaline substances. A case of I-II degree thermal burn caused by air bag deployment due to a car accident in a 36-year old man is reported.

Abstract
A case of I-II degree thermal burn caused by air bag deployment due to a car accident in a 36-year old man is reported.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
