This is an introduction to contributions to the 5th Regional Symposium of the International Fossil Algae Association held at the University of Ferrara in August, 2005. Four papers are included: 1) A paper on the dasyscladalean Triploporella praturlonii BARATTOLO 1982 from the Lower Barremian of France by IOAN I.
