In order to check the reliability of certain laboratory methods to characterize VHS, results obtained through an absolutely sure method, such as viral DNA analysis with restriction enzymes, have been compared to the results obtained out of the following methods.- 1indirect immunofluorescence with anti VHS-1 and anti VHS-2 anti sera- 2direct immunofluorescence with monoclonal antibodies- 3sensitivity to lododeoxyuridine- 4sensitivity to Oxauracil. Results show that IDF with monoclonal antibodies is the most reliable method. © 1985.
