Il curatore-mediatore. L’importanza delle capacità comunicative e relazionali nella curatela dell’arte negli spazi pubblici

This contribution highlights the importance of communication and relational skills for curators working with art in public spaces. Through the study of several contemporary curatorial practices, it illustrates the knowledge and skills essential for working with artistic interventions in public spaces, with particular attention to mediation: in fact, the curator must not only be able to convey both their own vision and that of the artist to an audience with varying degrees of knowledge, interest, and time, but also to connect various participants, such as commissioners, planners, artists, and users of the spaces, and facilitate their interactions. The author analyzes some examples of curatorial mediation in public spaces, such as that of Vincent De Boer, Jonas Dahlberg, and Daniele Lupo. The analysis of the case studies highlights how communication skills and techniques are crucial for a curator working with art in public spaces, and provides examples of effective mediation practices.
