The article analyses one of the possible trajectories within the spatial turn, focusing on the human right to independent living. The Author will consider the existing tensions, focusing on the emancipatory drive on the one hand and on the deep-seated cultural resistance to change on the other (in the latter case, with particular reference to the Italian context). The ultimate aim of the paper is to highlight how the recognition of this human right contributes today to fostering confidence in the emancipatory and inclusive function of human rights—and, along with it, in the very age of rights itself.

Bernardini M. G.
2026
Abstract
The article analyses one of the possible trajectories within the spatial turn, focusing on the human right to independent living. The Author will consider the existing tensions, focusing on the emancipatory drive on the one hand and on the deep-seated cultural resistance to change on the other (in the latter case, with particular reference to the Italian context). The ultimate aim of the paper is to highlight how the recognition of this human right contributes today to fostering confidence in the emancipatory and inclusive function of human rights—and, along with it, in the very age of rights itself.File in questo prodotto:
