This presentation explores how historic centres in Albania have changed over time. It might be through big, visible transformations, but also through slower, often overlooked processes. It looks at how cities gradually absorb and reshape history. Drawing on figures like Muratori, Purini, and Giovannoni, the talk considers how memory lives on in the historic buildings, familiar forms, and traces of the past that quietly persist in everyday life. Using the idea of the city as a place where different layers coexist and overlay each other, the study highlights urban transformation processes, but also about how people live in and adapt these spaces over time. By seeing heritage protection not as separate from development, but as a kind of development itself, this presentation calls for a broader understanding of how memory, space, and time shape our cities.

Abstract
This presentation explores how historic centres in Albania have changed over time. It might be through big, visible transformations, but also through slower, often overlooked processes. It looks at how cities gradually absorb and reshape history. Drawing on figures like Muratori, Purini, and Giovannoni, the talk considers how memory lives on in the historic buildings, familiar forms, and traces of the past that quietly persist in everyday life. Using the idea of the city as a place where different layers coexist and overlay each other, the study highlights urban transformation processes, but also about how people live in and adapt these spaces over time. By seeing heritage protection not as separate from development, but as a kind of development itself, this presentation calls for a broader understanding of how memory, space, and time shape our cities.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
