Una storia sbagliata. Anatomia della querelle giudiziaria tra Enrico Berlinguer e Leonardo Sciascia

The political and judicial dispute between Enrico Berlinguer, secretary of the Italian Communist Party, and Sciascia dates back to 1980 and is linked to a world of values and a system of communication that no longer exist. Inspired by the meticulous archival investigation of Andrea Maori and the reorganisation of the papers published in this volume of «Todomodo», this essay reconstructs the investigation in its entirety, untangling its ambiguities and misunderstandings regarding judicial truth. When removed from the contradictory courtroom outcomes, the dispute is returned to the dimension of culture and reason, involving the dilemmas of friendship and truth (the cause of the end of the partnership between Sciascia and Guttuso) and to the opposition – according to Weber’s concepts – between the «ethics of responsibility» (of the Communist leader) and the «ethics of conviction» (of the Sicilian writer).
