Abstract

In the context of built cultural heritage conservation, collaboration between disciplines is a fundamental component of an approach to balance the building as a whole with all its peculiarities, bringing expertise to contribute to a ho-listic comprehension of the conservation issues and the development of practical solutions, according to specific disciplinary stances. The paper delves into the impact of rising damp on the structural behaviour and energy efficiency of the built herit-age according to different evaporative methods, which, amidst many failures and a few successes, show how it is only in the last decade that interdisciplinary collaboration led to the definition of a method capable of providing a productive solution. Starting from the first experiments with evaporative techniques, the progress made in treat-ment methods is described according to the promising theoretical results in the laboratory and the not-always-flattering feedback from the reality on the construction site.
