Umberto Margiotta's decision to reintroduce the Deweyan essay Liberalism and Social Action in 2005 stems from a conviction that could, in some respects, be described as prophetic. This conviction lies in the need to adopt, nearly ninety years later, the perspective from which the American philosopher and educator observed the ambiguities of the historical development of liberalism. A prophetic attention, as it is driven by the awareness that, in the context of today's neoliberalism, those ambiguities have multiplied, placing the world in a state of perpetual crisis. For Dewey, as for Margiotta, "rebirth" must take place on the grounds of education, in the "redemption" of intelligence, understood, however, in its social, collective, and cooperative dimensions: open to change for the common good.

Abstract
Umberto Margiotta's decision to reintroduce the Deweyan essay Liberalism and Social Action in 2005 stems from a conviction that could, in some respects, be described as prophetic. This conviction lies in the need to adopt, nearly ninety years later, the perspective from which the American philosopher and educator observed the ambiguities of the historical development of liberalism. A prophetic attention, as it is driven by the awareness that, in the context of today's neoliberalism, those ambiguities have multiplied, placing the world in a state of perpetual crisis. For Dewey, as for Margiotta, "rebirth" must take place on the grounds of education, in the "redemption" of intelligence, understood, however, in its social, collective, and cooperative dimensions: open to change for the common good.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
