The aim of this paper is to investigate a particularly relevant historical moment for the development of translation in the contemporary sense of the term, i.e. as a technically advanced editorial practice embedded in a system of book production that was about to become industrial. We are talking about the 1930s, a period that scholars call the “decade of translation”. In particular, we will observe the original translation posture of Tommaso Landolfi (1908-1979), investigating it starting from the comparison with his contemporaries (Leone Traverso and Renato Poggioli) and using critical categories such as the dichotomy between visibility/invisibility of the translator.
