La Spezieria del "Magno Spedale S. Anna" di Ferrara

On the 8th October 1440 Giovanni Tavelli da Tossignano obtained consent to build a hospital worthy of a great court like the one of the Estense. It is well known and proven by all historical memories, even the most ancient, that a Spezieria was established in the hospital from the very beginning. Rooms suited to the importance of the apothecary as they were very well equipped with important furnishings embellished with valuable works of art (Dosso Dossi and Girolamo da Carpi). Here are the results of a search in the State and Municipal Archives and Libraries of Ferrara for unpublished documents in a time span ranging from the 15th to the first decades of the 20th century.
