Craving has been becoming a very important target for the treatment of alcohol addicted patients. In fact, in the last decades numerous drugs have been experimented in the therapy of alcohol dependence according to the increased knowledge about the neurobiochimical mechanisms of craving. In this review the main drugs useful at present in the treatment of patients with alcohol problems are described and critically discussed, also considering that personalized therapies could be more specifi c for diff erent subtypes of alcohol-dependent patients with different craving neuromechanisms.
