After summarizing the current worsening of the long ecological crisis between humans and nature, the essay investigates the trajectory of the notion of sustainability, starting from the founding moments of the ecological thought. The author is highlighting the substantial failure of the institutional culture and policies for sustainable development and the limited contributions to the construction of a different relationship between human beings and the environment from social and human disciplines, as well as humanities and cultural contributions like novels, arts, performing arts, and multimedia. The cultural journey backwards for the rediscovery of the ecologized thought addresses the dualism between Measure and Culture as the original and basic problem of the concept and practices of sustainability and discusses transdisciplinary as a possible way to find a new space for ecological knowledge and action.
