The knowledge on the Brunelleschi’s Dome, including its interior structure, is the result of observation and research from several scholars, which have added new objective elements or interpretative historical insights over time. The geometric layout, the constructive system and the cracking process have been the most argued aspects in a number of heated scientific debates, which have often resulted in a compromised historiographic interpretation. This essay deepens the study of the dome’s intrados brickwork, following its first direct observation during the restoration works on the 16th- century wall paintings. Additionally, the historiographic evolution on this topic is outlined, highlighting noticeable omissions and the restrained character affecting some quotes of previous studies.

Abstract
The knowledge on the Brunelleschi’s Dome, including its interior structure, is the result of observation and research from several scholars, which have added new objective elements or interpretative historical insights over time. The geometric layout, the constructive system and the cracking process have been the most argued aspects in a number of heated scientific debates, which have often resulted in a compromised historiographic interpretation. This essay deepens the study of the dome’s intrados brickwork, following its first direct observation during the restoration works on the 16th- century wall paintings. Additionally, the historiographic evolution on this topic is outlined, highlighting noticeable omissions and the restrained character affecting some quotes of previous studies.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
