Infrastrutture, patrimonio culturale e paesaggio

This contribution explores the great potentials of an integrated, heritage-oriented conception of infrastructure planning and its outcomes on landscape evolution, heritage disclosure and valorization. Even though both the technical and normative tools already exist at national level, standard procedures when realizing new and spatially extended infrastructural networks such as underground pipelines, highways or railways, require the collaboration of specialists such as landscape architects or archaeologists only in case of discovering historically valuable artifacts along the excavations, or environmental emergencies along the infrastructural path. The authors argue the need for a radical perspective inversion, understanding such infrastructural works, already catalyzing major economic investments, as a primary driver for heritage enhancement, supporting especially marginal and highly fragmented territories in consolidating new forms of attraction, accessibility and spatial justice.
