Bringing the academy closer to both the production world and market dynamics. Promoting sustainable development in the construction sector. Hooking the new generation of designers on green building projects. Making architects able to consciously understand and manage the latest transformations in construction processes. The Solar Decathlon competition is all this and more. International teams of academic students and instructors, supported by companies and organizations, work for two years with the aim of building an on-site construction in just a 2-week time. Each team’s building will then participate to the Final Competition. More than ever, here the important thing is taking part to the competition and being able to assemble the building: the final ranking comes off second best to the satisfaction of achieving a fully functional, self-sufficient and monitored construction, especially from a student’s perspective. Any participant will gain new social relationships and important international contacts, as well as the ability to innovate processes and products, relations with companies to continue the work of developing systems and components and finally, above all, a sense of giving a personal contribution to the worldwide challenge against climate changes.
