This article analyzes the legislative proposals discussed in the recent past, that would have made it easier for children born in Italy to obtain Italian nationality. Neither these proposals nor similar norms are not likely to be approved anytime soon; at the same time, they would reflect a model of nationality based on effectiveness of the links between Italy and its nationals, while arguably also fostering compliance with Italy's international obligations.
