The reliability of Direct Displacement Based Design (DDBD) for reinforced concrete cantilever walls and dual frame-wall buildings under strong seismic motions was examined. Therefore, a comparative procedure between DDBD method and multimodal analysis with spectrum response on expected stresses and strains was performed. Design control was investigated by means of nonlinear dynamic analyses, using both lumped and consistent (such as fibre models) plasticity approaches, including strain penetration, shear-flexure interaction and strength confinement. Results confirmed essentially the substantial reliability of DDBD in reinforced concrete cantilever walls and dual frame-wall buildings design, especially for tall buildings, for which spectrum analysis tents to underestimate the expected displacements, due to the influence of vibrational modes superior than fundamental.

Abstract
The reliability of Direct Displacement Based Design (DDBD) for reinforced concrete cantilever walls and dual frame-wall buildings under strong seismic motions was examined. Therefore, a comparative procedure between DDBD method and multimodal analysis with spectrum response on expected stresses and strains was performed. Design control was investigated by means of nonlinear dynamic analyses, using both lumped and consistent (such as fibre models) plasticity approaches, including strain penetration, shear-flexure interaction and strength confinement. Results confirmed essentially the substantial reliability of DDBD in reinforced concrete cantilever walls and dual frame-wall buildings design, especially for tall buildings, for which spectrum analysis tents to underestimate the expected displacements, due to the influence of vibrational modes superior than fundamental.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
