The biostratigraphic and sedimentological study of the Paleogene terrains outcropping in southern Trentino, between the valleys of Adige and Sarca, reveals abrupt and distinct facies changes, documenting a pronounced paleomorphology. The very shallow, elongated, central ridge, characterized by shallow-water carbonates was bounded westward by a deep basin where hemipelagic sediments were accumulating. The eastern basin was instead characterized by a shallowing upward succession related to the lateral progradation of the Torbole-Nago platform. Abstract

Uplift of this elongated structural high is probably related to Eocene strike-slip tectonics, inheriting a Late Cretaceous NNE-SSW striking structural grain.-from English summary
