The etiopathogenetic role of the pre-perinatal factors is still under discussion. The recent literature puts forward hypothesis that investigation performed on homogeneous groups of epileptic patients increases the likelihood of identifying specific risk factors related to specific types of seizures. In agreement with these remarks, we performed community based case-control studies on groups of epileptic patients affected by well-defined types of seizures. We included in this study all patients affected by partial seizures (n. 55). Other inclusion criteria were disease onset during the years 1984-1978, age <35 years and residence in the study area (USL 34 - Copparo). The patient group was compared with a control group (n. 165) of healthy individuals matched for sex, age and residence in Copparo. Abstract
The etiopathogenetic role of the pre-perinatal factors is still under discussion. The recent literature puts forward hypothesis that investigation performed on homogeneous groups of epileptic patients increases the likelihood of identifying specific risk factors related to specific types of seizures. Other inclusion criteria were disease onset during the years 1984-1978, age <35 years and residence in the study area (USL 34 - Copparo). The patient group was compared with a control group (n. 165) of healthy individuals matched for sex, age and residence in Copparo. A familial history of epilepsy or febrile seizures, febrile seizures and other pre-perinatal factors (previous abortions, radiations, infections, prolonged labor, uterine inertia, use of foceps...I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
