The spatial and temporal distribution of the death rates attributed to tumours that affect 1) mouth, oral cavity and pharynx (MP), 2) oesophagus (OE) and 3) liver and biliary ducts (LB) was studied in Italy for the period 1958-1985. Variation of crude death rates attributed to the three types of tumours was investigated for the whole Country and for the three main geographical areas of the North, Center, and South of Italy. It was found that for the whole Country and for the types of tumours considered, the death rate increases significantly in time with a less stressed trend for LB. The trends are not homogeneous over the Country since the increase is faster for MP and OE death rates than for LB rates in the North, while in the Center and South the increase is faster for LB. Abstract
