Every single biological event involved in the pathogenesis of acne represents a potential target for acne therapy. The pathogenetic factors of acne include epithelial hyperproliferation and follicular plugging, hyperactivity of sebaceous gland and hyperseborrea, hyperactivity of Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), inflammation and immune host response. Topical treatments are revised and future molecules are discussed.
