The dipeptide Boc-l-Ala-m-ABA-OMe has been synthesised in order to understand the structure of β-sheet polypeptides. Its crystal structure shows that it forms an infinite, distorted, parallel β-sheet assemblage by intermolecular hydrogen-bonding and π–π interactions between the benzene rings. © 2002 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
