In the chick embryo, after 5-6 days of incubation, a primitive population of erythroid cells, with embryonic hemoglobin, slowly fades out to be progressively replaced by a morphologically different cell population characterized by adult hemoglobin. Cytoarabine delays the erythrocyte switchover for at least 24 hours. The same delay is also seen in the hemoglobin switcchover. In fact, at the 7th day of incubation, the treated embryos show no signs of adult hemoglobin and at the 8th day the amount of embryonal hemoglobin is higher than in the controls.

Abstract
In the chick embryo, after 5-6 days of incubation, a primitive population of erythroid cells, with embryonic hemoglobin, slowly fades out to be progressively replaced by a morphologically different cell population characterized by adult hemoglobin. Cytoarabine delays the erythrocyte switchover for at least 24 hours. The same delay is also seen in the hemoglobin switcchover. In fact, at the 7th day of incubation, the treated embryos show no signs of adult hemoglobin and at the 8th day the amount of embryonal hemoglobin is higher than in the controls.File in questo prodotto:
