Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of acetaminophen versus nimesulide in the acute treatment of juvenile migraine. Patients: The study involved 66 children, aged 8 to 18 years (mean age 12.8 ± 3.1), suffering from migraine without aura. Methods: The subjects were treated for 10 attacks - five with acetaminophen (15mg/kg) and five with nimesulide (2.5mg/kg). Sixty patients completed the trial. The efficacy was evaluated on the basis of clinical relief of pain at 90 minutes after the administration of the drug. Results: Acetaminophen induced disappearance of headache in 78 attacks (26 percent), improvement in 149 (50 percent), and no effect in 73 (24 percent). Nimesulide determined disappearance of pain in 82 attacks (27 percent), improvement in 152 (51 percent), and no effect in 66 attacks (22 percent). Side effects (mild abdominal discomfort and nausea) were observed in 9 percent of the cases treated with acetaminophen, and 6 percent of those treated with nime...
