Hepatitis A is an infectious disease sustained by a RNA virus (HAV), predominantly transmitted by the fecal-oral route. As occurs for almost all enterically transmitted organisms, poor sanitation and hygienic standards and low socio-economic conditions are related to the endemicity of the infection. Outbreaks are also related to contaminated water and/or food (vegetables, shellfish, ect.). In this study we evaluated the epidemiological trend of HAV infection during the last eight years in the Province of Lecce, comparing these data with the regional and national ones.

Abstract
Hepatitis A is an infectious disease sustained by a RNA virus (HAV), predominantly transmitted by the fecal-oral route. As occurs for almost all enterically transmitted organisms, poor sanitation and hygienic standards and low socio-economic conditions are related to the endemicity of the infection. Outbreaks are also related to contaminated water and/or food (vegetables, shellfish, ect.). In this study we evaluated the epidemiological trend of HAV infection during the last eight years in the Province of Lecce, comparing these data with the regional and national ones.File in questo prodotto:
