A feasibility study of a storage ring dedicated to crystalize ion beams is actually in progress at the LNL Legnaro Laboratory. As result of computer simulations, a 38 m circumference storage ring with six super-periods was selected among other possible configurations. Simulation programs suggest the possibility to use such a storage ring in order to study ordered beam structure (string, zig-zag, helix, shell). The problems connected to the shear forces induced in the dipoles have been taken into account and are still under study.

Abstract
A feasibility study of a storage ring dedicated to crystalize ion beams is actually in progress at the LNL Legnaro Laboratory. As result of computer simulations, a 38 m circumference storage ring with six super-periods was selected among other possible configurations. Simulation programs suggest the possibility to use such a storage ring in order to study ordered beam structure (string, zig-zag, helix, shell). The problems connected to the shear forces induced in the dipoles have been taken into account and are still under study.File in questo prodotto:
