The anatomical theater in Ferrara was constructed on the ground floor of Palazzo Paradiso in 1731 by architect Francesco Mazzarelli, replacing a smaller, temporary space used for public dissections since 1588. In 1771, significant organizational changes at the University of Ferrara impacted the anatomical theatre. The teaching of anatomy gradually moved to the local hospital, which was integrated into the university structure, affecting both practical and financial aspects. By the end of the 18th century, the anatomical theater and city hospital allowed women to attend anatomy lessons, marking a significant shift in medical education. Anatomy classes were conducted in the theater until 1831, when the School of Medicine relocated to Sant’Anna hospital. The theater was then repurposed as a chemistry classroom until 1963. After several years of closure, it was restored in 1986 and underwent further maintenance in 2021, continuing to be a prominent symbol of Ferrara's university heritage.

Abstract
After several years of closure, it was restored in 1986 and underwent further maintenance in 2021, continuing to be a prominent symbol of Ferrara's university heritage.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
