The contribution deals with the twinning between the Universities of Ferrara and Toruń which took place in 1965 in the name of Copernicus. Although this event is not directly linked to any of Copernicus official celebrations, it allows us to reflect on the multiple meanings of the Polish astronomer’s work and on the many uses of history as a rhetorical and political tool. After reconstructing the story of how the partnership between the two universities was built, the paper proposes three levels of interpretation of this event in terms of academic politics, politics and religion, and cultural politics more broadly.

Abstract
The contribution deals with the twinning between the Universities of Ferrara and Toruń which took place in 1965 in the name of Copernicus. Although this event is not directly linked to any of Copernicus official celebrations, it allows us to reflect on the multiple meanings of the Polish astronomer’s work and on the many uses of history as a rhetorical and political tool. After reconstructing the story of how the partnership between the two universities was built, the paper proposes three levels of interpretation of this event in terms of academic politics, politics and religion, and cultural politics more broadly.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
