Late antique auctores play, for Luxorius, a fundamental mediating role in the revival of themes and poetic language of the classical tradition. The first part of the paper takes into consideration the epithalamic cento for Fridus (AL 18 R.), showing how Statius’ model was filtered through new auctores such as Claudianus, Sidonius, and, above all, Ausonius and Dracontius. The epigrammatic corpus is later be handed down, in order to illustrate the thematic and stylistic selection by which Luxorius implemented Martial’s epigrammatic canon on the basis of the redefinition given by the new 'classics', and by Ausonius in particular. Two case studies will be presented, epigrams 317 and 328 R.
