The technical innovation of wooden composite beams was the origin of an important transformation in 15th-century architecture in Ferrara and was also a response to the search for architectural renewal in the humanistic era. The carpenter who provided the right solution for Palazzo di Belriguardo was Peregrino Punzinella: rewarded by Leonello d'Este, he belonged to a family of carpenters and in this context of experience he may have acquired the skills for an undertaking that would have changed the aspect of the city.
