Abstract

The built heritage that houses museums, archives, and libraries are exposed to deteriogenic agents that can endanger the preservation of the tangible heritage within hosted, with harmful impact over time, even in controlled environments, but not continuously monitored. The biological particle can proliferate and expand, triggering biodeterioration activity, especially under favorable microclimatic and nutritional settings. Reducing these risks requires rapid and proactive action from managers and conservators. In this context, the paper aims to illustrate the results achieved by the Crisalide (Conservation&Restoration Innovative System to Augment Life-long-learning of Digital Evidence) research project. According to the prediction approach to the biological contamination damage evolution, technologies for monitoring bioaerosols and, in particular, the prevention and control strategy for parchment heritage, represented by the aerobiological and microclimatic monitoring platform, are presented as part of the adopted methodology.
