During the cold interval between the Hengelo and the Arcy interstadials, a group of modern Humans settled in the Western Lessini Mountains, choosing the Fumane Cave as a living site, seasonally frequented probably for half of any year. The environment offered to the aurignacian hunters food and lithic resources within 15 km far from the site. The red ochre was collected in the Central Lessini Mountains, about 25-30 km far, while the radiolarite comes from the Lombardian Prealpes, at least 40 km far from the west. Other findings suggest relationships with the north-western Mediterranean regions, between the Provence and the Liguria: serpentinite pebbles, some kinds of red ochre used as colouring pigment and the marine shells. The provenance of the last ones is anyway problematic: they could have been collected in a sea-shell detritus of other Mediterranean shores
