Cutin-based poly(ester-urethane)s were synthesized from cutin extracted from tomato by-products, by reaction with 1,4-butanediol, and isophorone diisocyanate via a two-step process. These polymers underwent characterization using ATR, NMR, and thermal analysis techniques such as TGA and DSC. Subsequently, these polymers were applied as coatings on a paper substrate using a developed protocol to achieve homogenous coatings of the crosslinked amorphous polymers. These coatings effectively endowed the porous substrate with excellent barrier properties against both liquid water and grease.
