The chapter expands on copyright as a possible form of intellectual property protection for engineered DNA sequences. He argues that copyright might turn out to be not only flexible enough to handle contemporary technologies producing living organisms, but also socially preferable to patent protection, especially in terms of enhanced chances for users to access and use essential public knowledge assets in the life sciences sector.
