This preliminary study was performed to assess Ulva rigida ability to produce and store lipids. In 72 hours lipid content increased 4 fold from environmental scores (2.3%) in nitrogen depleted, stressful conditions in the dark, reaching values of 8.8%. Peak values of 15% were measured in dark/light cycles. The role of stress in lipid production was briefly evaluated.
