The presented work is devoted to the definition of a robust design guideline for the study of twin lip vane layouts. The research deals with the problems that affects the design of twin lip vane pumps capable to ensure satisfactory volumetric performances combined to reasonable internal loads and restrained noise and vibrations. The main outcome of the study is the definition of an admissibility domain within which is possible to identify the vane geometrical parameters that allow to obtain a coherent vane design. The boundary of the admissibility domain are defined through an analytical investigation of the kinematics of the cam ring-vane mechanism. In addition, the maps of the maximum and minimum loads achieved through a complete rotor revolution are presented and discussed.
