Design/methodology/approach – By relying on ten in-depth interviews with Islamic fashion designers, the paper seeks to provide emblematic evidence about behaviours and competencies that entrepreneurial ambidexterity is likely to entail Findings – From the preliminary findings, it emerges that both exploitation and exploration play an important role in determining the success of entrepreneurial activity in the Islamic fashion sector. In particular, the peculiar settings of Islamic fashion industry require a delicate balance between the two. Originality/value – By introducing task type into the discussion of entrepreneurial ambidexterit, a more fine-grained understanding of the required behaviours and competences is developed.
