Abstract — The standardization of environmental data is required for a proper joint and comparative analysis on data collected from heterogeneous sensors and monitoring systems. The problem of data standardization is related to the aspects of recording and classification of the sensors and of normalization of the values of their measures. Sensornet, the IoT platform of the Emilia-Romagna region, carries out the standardization process through a very general data model for the sensors and a very modular and versatile layer for the values, which allows data retrieval from different sources and storage in a standard format in a centralized database. In the specific case of the acquisition of data from the PAIoT network, the regional IoT network based on Lo-RaTM technology, the data standardization criteria are delegated instead to the source system, as it is the only one able to manage their complexity and variety and therefore to guarantee their correct integration within Sensornet, defining a general and a replicable model for the integration of enviromental data from different systems.
