The main objective of the research is to set up a methodological process based on digital data capturing and modeling aimed at the intervention on 20th century existing built asset in the Emilia-Romagna region (Italy). These data integrated with diagnostic information become the basis for the development of digital models and tools in BIM (Building information modeling) environment. This approach aims to optimize the process of existing buildings digitization providing tools to foster the application of advanced technological systems for refurbishment, regeneration and management. This still in progress research focuses on a widespread built heritage that needs to be upgraded to achieve energy-saving, quality and safety standards. Surveyed data can be managed through parametric procedures (BIM) providing tools to operate in a multi-level digital environment. These digital tools are also the key to include digital fabrication in the existing workflow, improving the construction site process. The proposed methodology puts together survey data and diagnostic information, to be aggregated and structured in a shared and accessible system to outline a possible way to make the intervention process more efficient.
