After a short survey about the current state of the sources of Boccherini’s music, an overview of his symphonies is proposed here that groups them according to their conception and destination, distinguishing between single pieces written for specific occasions, groups of six compositions intended for publication and further symphonies sold as 'périodiques'. The controversial case of Symphony G 500 is also dealt with, prudently excluding it from Boccherini’s canon for the moment.
