As outcome of the COST-Action TU1403, Adaptive Facades Network - Training School the contribute aims is to investigate adaptive facade systems and to asses the possibilities of their application in facade retrofitting and resulting energy and environmental benefits. The process was about the integration of innovative facade technologies into the building retrofitting of the two case studies assigned to workgroups. Workgroups had to design different variants of the improvement of existing facades by applying adaptive facade systems, and to asses the thermal and light comfort and reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions, but also compare the advatanges and disadvantages of particular solutions. The two building assigned were an office building (Case study 1): high-rise, stand-alone and with a glass suspended facade; and a residential building (Case study 2): high-rise, stand-alone and with a prefabricated reinforced concrete panels facade.
