This essay plans to explore the whole funerary culture of the Adriatic zone – the one that lies between Ariminum (ancient name of Rimini) and the Delta of the Po river – using the burial sites found in the areas of Cesena and Ravenna (in Ravenna Caesar Augustus built the military port of The Roman empire). The essay aims to analyze the way the people who embraced the roman culture pursued the roman funeral rites, during a wide period, between the II century B.C. and the III century A.D., when the Romans colonized the whole area. The same time when a dramatic political and ideological crisis affected the roman world. The document is divided into two parts. The first one covers the funerary rituality in the roman culture: the topics are the analysis of the cult, the architectural and monumental hallmarks, nuts and bolts of the mortuary rite. The second part analyses cemeteries whom are the perfect samples of funeral rite. Mainly if we consider how this archaeological study has been carried out through the stratigraphic method. The data interpretation has been realized using a sophisticated database, which has been projected specially for this research: the database allowed us to investigate the sequence of the cemeteries, the details of the graves, the objects placed both inside than outside the burials.

Abstract
The data interpretation has been realized using a sophisticated database, which has been projected specially for this research: the database allowed us to investigate the sequence of the cemeteries, the details of the graves, the objects placed both inside than outside the burials.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
