It is inevitable for the historian of ideas to turn to Lessing's Laocoon to point an early genesis and persistent horizon concerning the problematic issue of time in the visual arts. On the famous distinction between temporal arts (music and literature) and spatial arts (painting, sculpture, architecture, dance) a conspicuous number of studies have been published, some of which have tried to show how such opposition is actually anything but irredeemable. The aim of this essay is to reconsider the ways in which future time may be subject to representations; what is the value of future time from the aesthetic point of view; what is the "meaning" of future time in a work of visual art.

Abstract
It is inevitable for the historian of ideas to turn to Lessing's Laocoon to point an early genesis and persistent horizon concerning the problematic issue of time in the visual arts. On the famous distinction between temporal arts (music and literature) and spatial arts (painting, sculpture, architecture, dance) a conspicuous number of studies have been published, some of which have tried to show how such opposition is actually anything but irredeemable. The aim of this essay is to reconsider the ways in which future time may be subject to representations; what is the value of future time from the aesthetic point of view; what is the "meaning" of future time in a work of visual art.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
